Accused teacher Muttappa Yellappa Hadagali is absconding now.
The teacher also allegedly assaulted the boy’s mother, who is also a teacher at the same government primary school in Hadli village.
GM Basvalingappa, deputy director of public instruction, told TOI that Muttappa Yellappa Hadagali, 33, a guest teacher assaulted a boy called Bharat Baraker, 10, who succumbed to injuries later in the hospital.
“The teacher also assaulted Geeta Baraker, 35, the boy’s mother and another guest teacher. We are unaware of the reason. According to our information, there was no quarrel as such between Hadagali and Baraker in the past,” he informed.
Deputy commissioner Vyshali ML and Superintendent of police Shivaprakash Devaraju visited the school and took stock of the situation.
Devaraju said the accused teacher is absconding.
“We have taken a complaint from other teachers and will arrest him soon. The reason is yet to be traced after the investigation,” he added.
“As soon as we got the information, we rushed to the village. We have sent Nargund BEO along with the injured teacher to KIMS Hubballi. We are also coordinating with the hospital to get all possible medical assistance for her. We enquired all teachers but none of them asserted any reason for such a tragedy,” the deputy commissioner added.
